Lil Wayne Names Eminem Hip Hop’s Quarterback
Of course with Weezy being a guest, Hunter found a way to crossbreed rap and sports into one conversation. One of the topics that came up is how Weezy would build his NFL team as it pertains to his rap cohorts.
With the quarterback being perhaps the most important position in sports, Weezy gave high praise to Eminem, dubbing him with the honor.
“No race shit, but you gotta have a nice white boy as the quarterback. I’m sorry. He could also be the kicker, you never know!” he said.
But he also gave praise to several of his other rap cohorts.
On Jay-Z: “I don’t know if he’s the coach or something, but he a veteran.”
On Drake: “Then we need a proven superstar, and that would be my man Drizzy [Drake]. He could play both sides of the ball, he could sing and rap.”
On J Cole: He gon’ keep the ship steady when we got the hot heads tripping.”
Weezy has held Eminem in high regard for a while. He previously noted that the first time he got the opportunity to work with the Detroit-born artist he was “scared.” He also referred to Eminem as a “Monster.”
“I was scared, actually, when I called Eminem for a song,” Wayne said to the New York Times in 2023. “That is a monster. He must have the same thing I have with words. Like, we can’t get them out of our heads. Every meaning, every aspect of them. Things that rhyme, we hear it. I already know the gift and the curse that he has. And I love to hear the way he puts it together.”
