LiAngelo Ball, aka GELO, and Rashida Nicole are calling it quits just months after tying the knot—and only days after sharing they were expecting a child together.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports, the 25-year-old former pro hooper turned rapper officially filed for divorce on Thursday, July 3, at a courthouse in Southern California—the same place where the pair reportedly made their marriage official back in February.
The news comes as a surprise to fans who follow Rashida Nicole, a beauty and lifestyle influencer with nearly 200K followers. Just a week before the filing, she had posted a pregnancy announcement, revealing that she and Ball were preparing to welcome a new baby.
GELO gave his first public statement on the divorce in a recent interview with Billboard:
“When people conversate about my personal life, it don’t touch me or bother me too much. Like I see it, of course, because you know, everybody got a phone, but it don’t rub me the wrong way or nothing because nobody really go [through] what I go through every day. You not me, for real… I be feeling good when I step out. Got love.”
The split adds another layer to an already complex chapter in Ball’s personal life. Earlier this year, his ex-girlfriend Nikki Mudarris—the mother of his two young children—accused him of abandoning their family shortly after the birth of their second child.
“We spent 3 1/2 years together, and last week he decided to walk out on his kids and tell me he got someone else pregnant (allegedly) and now is creating a new life with her,” she wrote. “We were just happy and planning family photos – I am beyond blind-sighted by this whole thing. The ultimate betrayal is not even the word. My daughter is not even 2 months old and dealing with this and postpartum is very hard. Please pray for me & my healing because I will get through this.”
The latest development has fans questioning what’s next for the Ball brother whose off-court drama continues to make more headlines than his basketball career.
