Cam’ron can admittedly recognize when someone is talented, even when the guy owes him some money.
During the latest episode of his online series Talk With Flee, the Harlem rap veteran was asked directly about reports that he’s suing J. Cole over their 2024 collaboration “Ready ‘24.” While Cam’ron had no issue calling Cole “a hundred percent” destined for legendary status, he refused to address the legal dispute that’s now making headlines.
Last week (Oct. 28), TMZ reported that Cam’ron filed a lawsuit claiming Cole failed to uphold an agreement made when the pair recorded “Ready ‘24,” which appeared on Cole’s Might Delete Later mixtape. According to the filing, Cam’ron delivered his verse in 2022 under the condition that Cole would either appear on his It Is What It Is podcast or collaborate on a second track. Two years later, Cam says neither has happened.
In the suit, the Dipset rapper is reportedly seeking at least $500,000 in royalties and profits, co-writer credit on the recording, and a full accounting of revenue tied to the track through Universal Music Group.
On Talk With Flee, co-host Sen City tried to get Killa to address the lawsuit head-on, asking, “Why are you suing J. Cole, my n—a? He don’t bother nobody.” Cam’ron — sporting sunglasses and an unbothered demeanor — simply ignored the question. When pressed again, he only answered the part about Cole’s talent: “I think J. Cole is definitely going to be a rap legend. One hundred percent, definite.”
Asked a third time whether being a “future legend” earns Cole a pass, Cam responded with more silence.
As of now, neither J. Cole nor UMG has issued a public response to the lawsuit.
The situation marks a rare moment of tension between two artists who’ve shared mutual respect — at least musically. Whether the dispute gets resolved in court or behind closed doors remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Cam’ron isn’t willing to let someone else’s status hold his bag hostage.
