Jack Harlow seems like he’s constantly dealing with controversies nowadays. The Kentucky rapper’s latest misstep came when Jozzy, a famous songwriter, told a crowd at a Q&A that he tried to make her ghostwrite instead of receiving credit for her work.
Why Did Jack Harlow Ask Jozzy To Ghostwrite?
Jozzy’s stamped in the industry, writing for the likes of Beyonce, Summer Walker, SZA, 21 Savage, Latto, and helped write Lil Nas X’s seismic hit “Old Town Road.” She’s also written for Monica, who happens to have the same name as Harlow’s new album. At a Q&A, podcasts hosts for Selective Ignorance captured the moment Jozzy explained why Harlow and her don’t work together.
“He texted me a long voice note like ‘yo I love working with you and I want to work with you but also I don’t want nobody to know like that you’ve been working with me,'” Jozzy recalled. “(He) like pretty much wanted me to be a ghostwriter (for him) and that hurt. I was like, ‘yo, you know, I’m a hitmaker.’ In my head, I’m like, ‘what the f***. But I was like, bro, I’m not a ghostwriter. I’m not writing your lyrics. Like, but if the song comes out, I’m letting n***** know I wrote it.”
Jozzy went on to say her and Harlow weren’t able to work through their differences.
“We never worked after that,” she said. “I respect him for hitting me with what he wanted. In return, I hit him with what I wasn’t going to do. Because it ain’t about the money. Every song with your name is a business card. It’s going to give me other work. The f*** you thought this s*** was? So, we can stop it here.”
Harlow has not commented on the situation.
What Else Is Going On With Jack Harlow
Harlow has been under major fire recently for his recent comments about his new album Monica.
On The NY Times Popcast, amongst two other white men, as the host fumbled around a way to describe Harlow’s musical shift, Harlow simplified the response, much to his detriment.
“I got blacker,” Harlow said.
Those three words have sparked a chain reaction for Harlow, as his new album struggled to sell copies and any buzz about the songs was replaced by countless memes of Harlow’s “blackness…”
The Breakfast Club host Charlamagne The God summarized why people are upset with Harlow’s comments.
“Let me tell you something, I like Jack Harlow. I’ve met Jack Harlow, we’ve interviewed Jack Harlow, and Jack is a nice guy. But I told y’all on Friday that this album made him whiter,” Charlamagne said. “And saying the music ‘made you blacker’ is exactly why I said this album made him whiter… You gotta be really white to say that this music made you blacker.”
Harlow has been pretty quiet since the internet tore him to shreds.
