On Wednesday (April 22), Complex dropped off its list of the ‘Hottest 100 Rappers’ in the game right now. And the list has sparked a lot of outrage from fans.
Fans Outraged at Complex Over Wale Omission
One of the reasons for their displeasure was that Wale was omitted from the list. Despite his latest album, Everything Is a Lot, debuting at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 200 and at No. 5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. And less successful artists such as LaRussell and 42 Dugg still cracked the list.
Fans were notably outraged by their displeasure and didn’t hold back on social media.
“Complex tries to rage-bait Wale all the time, it’s so corny at this point,” Hot 97’s Kazeem Famuyide wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“All lists are subjective, but no Wale is either ABSOLUTE INSANITY or rage bait,” Rob Markman of Genius, chimed in.
“Complex always hated on Wale. They do s**t like this to prove a point to specifically him,” a third user remarked.
Wale continues to be one of the more underrated artists in the game. Despite consistently putting out quality music. But that doesn’t seem to bother the D.C.-born artist.
In a November 2025 sit-down with Interview Magazine, Wale said the only person he is competing with is himself.
“That’s the hardest person to compete with,” Wale said. I’m better than a lot of dudes, so I try to compete with myself, but man, sometimes that bar is high.”
At the time of writing, Wale has not responded to Complex’s omission.
