Dame Dash recently sat down for an interview with media personality Jason Lee. And it went exactly as one might expect it to.
Dame Dash & Jason Lee Clash Over His Past Aaliyah Comments
During their sit-down, Lee confronted Dame Dash over his recent comments about his artist Nicky Licky. Specifically, how he compared her to the late R&B star, Aaliyah. But he insists that when he compared Nicky Licky to Aaliyah, he was exclusively alluding to her looks. Not her musical talent.
“What I said is she reminds me of a little white lesbian Aaliyah. I never compared her music to Aaliyah. And you don’t know Aaliyah. I did,” he said. “I never said anything about music. That’s such a racist and putting someone in a box kind of thing. I can say what the f*ck I want about Aaliyah. That was my girl. Y’all didn’t know Aaliyah like that. How the f*ck are you going to tell me how to celebrate Aaliyah? Every person and every woman that’s around me, if I don’t see an element of Aaliyah, I don’t f*ck with her. So every single girl around me, I’m going to compare to Aaliyah.”
Despite Dame denying him, comparing Nicky Licky’s musical talent to Aaliyah, the receipts prove otherwise. In an August 2025 interview with Art of Dialogue, Dame said that Nicky Licky “has the same everything” as the late singer.
“She has a little bit of rhythm, too. But she can play instruments, and she writes and sings, and she also did a lot of the administrative stuff with the album. So she helped me with my dream, and she earned her way into the band by working with the band,” he said at the time.
