The death of Takeoff is still being felt years later in the Hip Hop community. For his would be 32nd birthday, Quavo honored his passed on nephew.
What Did Quavo Do?
On Thursday (June 18th), Quavo took to Instagram to honor his family.
“Happy Rocket Day 2 Tha Original Drank God,” Quavo wrote. “Til infinity your art flow and DRIP will LIVE 4Eva MY BROTHA!!! Blessings.”
Quavo then posted several photos and videos of him and Takeoff. He posted Takeoff celebrating his birthday at a constructed sipping event. Then, solo shots of Takeoff hanging out, followed by an old video of the Migos trio rapping together.
Several notable people hopped in the comments to honor Takeoff.
“If you ain’t never sipped with take off, please put the cup down!,” Desto Dubb posted.
“Long live da ROCKET,” CoCash posted.
“HBD TAKE,” Zaytoven posted.
Other notable people such as Trippie Redd, Murda Beatz, Terrance Mallory, and more posted rocket and heart emojis.
Takeoff was shot and killed outside a bowling alley in Houston, Texas in the early hours of November 1, 2022. The Atlanta rapper was fatally wounded after a dice game turned violent and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Quavo, who was present at the time of the shooting, escaped unharmed but still carries the loss of his family. He has since taken a strong stance against gun violence, creating a foundation in his nephew’s honor – The Rocket Foundation and going to DC to talk to politicians about the issue.
Will Offset & Quavo Reunite?
Offset put up an interesting photo showing Quavo in the studio with two other individuals checking soundwaves for mixing. Another photo showed Quavo and an unnamed person sitting in front of the studio window. In the background, Offset is in the recording booth.
The duo had a famous falling out, disbanding the Migos. However, after Takeoff’s death, they reconciled at the 2023 BET Awards to pay tribute to their fallen member. Since then, they’ve appeared publicly together a few times, but haven’t made a song as the Migos since 2021. However, the duo did feature together on Don Toliver’s “Had Enough.”
Shortly after Quavo’s post went viral, Offset followed up with a post of his own. Featuring a photo of himself, Takeoff, and Quavo with the caption reading “ON DAT!!!”
The new photos seem to indicate the duo may come together as the Migos again for one last ride.
