Nicki Minaj and her family have officially put the wrongful death lawsuit over father Robert Maraj’s 2021 death to bed.
According to court documents, Nicki’s mother, Carol Maraj, agreed to a $400,000 settlement—$300,000 from driver Charles Polevich and another $100,000 from an insurance company. After legal fees and expenses, Robert Maraj’s estate is expected to receive roughly $234,000.
Carol initially sought $150 million after Robert was fatally struck while walking in a New York crosswalk. Polevich was later sentenced to one year in jail in the criminal case.
The civil lawsuit also made headlines when Polevich’s legal team tried to depose the rapper, arguing her lyrics about her childhood were relevant to the case.
Nicki Minaj recently reflected on some of those lyrics while appearing on Christian nationalist Bryce Crawford’s podcast, saying she wishes she could take back parts of her past music because she doesn’t want young fans growing up feeling like they need to change themselves.
