Yung Miami’s new record is the song of the summer. As the new hit single continues to fly up the Billboard charts. But as the song has continued to gain popularity, some have come out and expressed their displeasure with the song. Such as former Brownstones singer, Nicci Gilbert.
Nicci Gilbert Calls Yung Miami’s New Song ‘Witchcraft’
During a recent episode of her Diary of a Diva podcast, Gilbert addressed the new record. She made it clear that she doesn’t have any issues with Yung Miami, personally. And referred to the City Girls singer as “beautiful,” and praised her “fun personality.”But at the same time, Gilbert was blunt about her feelings toward Spend Dat. And expressed her “hate,” for the record.
She also pointed to the fact that she has seen children dancing and singing along to the record. Which is where she began to become especially concerned
“The lyrical content is witchcraft in my opinion,” she said during the podcast. “Music is the soundtrack of our lives. Music will inspire us to do the very worst things. Music will inspire us to do the very best things.”
Gilbert is not the only artist to come out and criticize the song. Earlier this week, neo-soul legend India Arie had some strong remarks about the record as well. And expressed concern over the “influence” that it could have on the community.
However, the backlash has not hindered the song’s success.
This week, Yung Miami’s record hit a new peak. Spend Dat crept into the number 25 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This was especially significant, giving the Miami rap artist the biggest hit of her career. City Girls’ Act Up peaked at the 26th spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
