After a second election victory for United States President Donald Trump, many fans were campaigning for a remix to YG’s 2016 record, FDT (F**k Donald Trump). But don’t expect it from the rap star.
YG Details Backlash Over 2016 Track ‘FDT’
During an appearance on Big Boy’s Neighborhood on Friday (July 3), YG revealed there wouldn’t be a sequel to FDT. He pointed to the backlash that he received after releasing the song as the reason.
“A lot of people be asking me that like, ‘Bro, are you going to do part two?’” YG said. “I’m like, “Listen, man. ‘ ” I got a lot of street s**t going on. I got a lot of other s**t going on. I don’t want no smoke with them, people.”
YG also detailed how the song has affected his business. Noting how sometimes people are skeptical about booking him. Because they are fearful about the song being part of his setlist.
“I’m still going through that. When I’m doing certain shows, they be like, ‘We want him, but he can’t do ‘FDT.’’”
YG also said that he received a letter from the White House over the track.
FDT never entered the Billboard Hot 100, but it peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and No. 50 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also reached No. 30 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart and the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. But chart numbers aside, it did become a viral sensation for the culture during the 2016 presidential race.
