Former Bad Boy artist Mark Curry is speaking out about his experience appearing in 50 Cent’s Emmy Award-winning Netflix docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning, claiming the arrangement left him disappointed both creatively and financially.

“I was promised a production credit,” Curry said while discussing the agreement he made to participate in the project. According to Curry, the deal ultimately turned out to be worse than the one he previously had with Diddy during his time affiliated with Bad Boy Records. He also detailed multiple attempts to build a larger business relationship with 50 Cent beyond his appearance in the series.

Curry says life has been difficult since the documentary’s release despite the massive attention surrounding the project. He claims Sean Combs: The Reckoning was viewed more than 50 million times on Netflix, but that the exposure did not translate into significant earnings for him.

One example Curry pointed to was the use of his song “Come With Me,” which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1998 film Godzilla. Curry says that because he did not have a sync licensing arrangement connected to the documentary’s use of the record, he earned just $69 from the song despite its appearance in the widely watched series.

Curry’s comments offer another look at the complicated business realities behind major music documentaries, particularly when artists participate in projects that generate significant cultural attention without necessarily sharing equally in the financial upside.
