Legendary engineer Young Guru is sick of people sleeping on him. The producer has worked with Kanye West, Beyonce, Rihanna, Ludacris, Pete Rock, JAY-Z and more, but says he’s not getting his flowers.
What Did Young Guru Say?
Guru took to Instagram to voice his thoughts about his lack of recognition.
““No more humble ‘Guru,’” he wrote “I tried it your way. I’m about to remind you. I thought it was corny to brag but y’all don’t respect nothing else. You talking but can’t see my career!!! You have one record. Bro I was doing that every week!!! 25 years ago. And I’m still doing it now!!! I’m one of the best ever!!!!”
Guru’s accolades include one Grammy win for Beyonce and JAY-Z’s Everything Is Love, along with five other Grammy nominations. He also served as the tour DJ for West and Hov’s Watch The Throne Tour.
In 2015, the Wall Street Journal profiled Guru in a piece titled “Young Guru Is The Most Influential Man In Hip Hop That You’ve Never Heard Of.”

What’s The Latest On JAY-Z?
The New York rapper recently sat down with the New York Times to discuss songwriting and other aspects of his career.
JAY opened up about the album that gave him the most trouble mentally.
“4:44 was the toughest thing I had to write,” he said. “Not lyrically, not the greatest metaphors I ever created, but the vulnerability, the honesty and transparency, that’s hard. That’s a difficult thing. But to do it for an entire album and sit in that and talk about real subjects and how your kids are gonna feel… That was the most difficult album that I had to write.”
He also discussed what made Biggie Smalls one of the best songwriters in Hip Hop.
While discussing “Brooklyn’s Finest,” he mentioned the power of Biggie’s infamous 2Pac diss (“If Faith had twins, she’d probably have 2Pacs”), explaining his genius.
“He was one of those ones who ain’t run from controversy, whether it made him look bad or not,” JAY-Z said. “Most people ego wouldn’t allow them to say [that line]. It was one of the endearing qualities he had as a writer.”
