Post Malone may be eyeing a return to the genre that catapulted him to superstardom.
Post Malone Hints at Potential Return to Hip-Hop
During a recent interaction with a fan, the artist was asked if he was working on any new rap music. And in his response, he didn’t rule out a return to the genre.
“We’ve been in the studio working very, very hard… and there’s a lot of awesome fu**ing sh*t,” he said in a post caught by XXL on X.

However, fans in the comments section weren’t very welcoming about a potential Post Malone return.
“He was never a good rapper to begin with. Why are people asking him if he’ll ever rap again?” one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“He got a fake country accent and everything now. Stay over there, buddy!”
Malone rose to stardom after the release of his 2016 hit White Iverson. And has since collaborated with some of the top hip-hop acts, such as Young Thug, Doja Cat, and Quavo. So naturally, he has been classified as a rapper. However, despite collaborating with some of the top artists in the genre, rap legend Raekwon isn’t convinced that Post Malone fits the description of a hip-hop artist.
“Prime example, and this ain’t s******g on nobody. Post Malone, right?. I love him as an artist. And if you look him up in the dictionary or Google or whatever, they call him an American rapper. Now my thing is, when I think of Post Malone, he’s singing all the time. Not taking anything away from him. Or saying that he can’t rhyme, but all of that is something else,” he said during a 2025 appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Nightcap.
“You see what I’m saying? See how the white boys do the rock? You got contemporary rock, punk rock, you got all these different types of rock. But when it comes to hip-hop, everything ya’ll n****s is calling hip-hop, it ain’t hip-hop, bro.”
