T.I. is back in legal drama, but this time, by his own choice. According to documents obtained by Billboard, TIP is suing Cinq Music to reobtain his masters, which he sold to them in 2017.
Why Is T.I. Suing Cinq Music?
The “24s” rapper alleges that when he sold his masters, there was a clause in the contract promising to let him buy them back at a cheaper price than what Cinq is listing. According to the lawsuit, they’re asking for over $50 Million dollars more than what he is supposed to owe.
In September 2024, T.I.’s company, Grand Hustle, exercised the buy back option in the contract to get his masters back.
According to the lawsuit, Cinq took six months to respond, causing T.I.’s team to demand an answer. In March 2025, Cinq got back to Grand Hustle with a number and it was not the figure expected.
The lawsuit also claims Cinq ignored the agreed-upon formula to calculate the actual number Grand Hustle was supposed to pay. The complaint alleges Cinq included revenue streams that were not agreed upon to use in the final price determination. They claim Cinq used revenue streams such as streaming license fees from Spotify and Apple Music, and money earned outside the United States.
T.I.’s lawyer, Robert Jacobs, explained his client’s stance in a statement.
“Cinq regretted that it had agreed to the [option terms], and, therefore … did everything it could to frustrate plaintiffs’ efforts to complete the purchase, Jacobs said. ““Using these tactics Cinq sought to extract a purchase price from plaintiffs that was nearly 20 times higher than the price mandated by the parties’ agreed-upon formula.”
Grand Hustle is seeking to buy back the masters at the price they feel they owe according to the formula.
T.I. sold Cinq his full Atlantic Records catalog, which includes Trap Muzik, Urban Legend, King, T.I. vs. T.I.P., Paper Trail, and more.
T.I. is suing Cinq Music, claiming they bought part of his catalog, promised a buyback, then tried to jack the price up nearly 20x.

What Else Has T.I Been Up To?
This isn’t the only legal drama T.I. is dealing with. His son, King Harris, was arrested during a traffic stop in Georgia on (April 12th).
According to reports, officers approached Harris after spotting a firearm on the dashboard of his vehicle. The situation escalated when he allegedly refused to comply with commands to exit the car.
Footage of the arrest shows T.I. arriving at the scene and trying to reason with the cops. He asks them a few questions like: “Did he express his fear for safety?… So, there’s absolutely no way to resolve this…?”
Details regarding any charges or the outcome of the arrest have not yet been fully disclosed.
