Diddy’s Legal Team Files Motion Against Tony Buzbee
However, after one of the lawsuits against the famed music moguls was dropped earlier this month, Diddy’s attorneys are doing everything they can to make sure he is not playing the role of prosecutor in this case.
They have filed a motion to deny pro hac vice application. The pro hac vice would allow Buzbee to prosecute Combs despite not being licensed to practice law in New York. Diddy’s attorneys allege that Buzbee has displayed “egregious conduct,” and for that reason, they believe he shouldn’t be the prosecutor.
“In our collective decades of practice, the undersigned counsel has never opposed a pro hac vice application, and we do not do so lightly here. But Buzbee’s egregious misconduct warrants denial of the privilege of appearing in this District.” Diddy’s legal team stated in the filing
“Even though none of Mr. Buzbee’s clients is expected to testify at Mr. Combs’ criminal trial,” the lawyers continued. “Mr. Buzbee’s extrajudicial statements here are likely to prejudice Mr. Combs’ criminal case as they unambiguously express ‘opinion as to the guilt or innocence of a defendant.’”
Buzbee was allegedly disbarred from practicing New York law after the lawsuit he brought against Diddy and Jay-Z was dropped. The lawsuit alleged that the two music moguls assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a party in the early 2000s.
Following the speculation that he may have been disbarred, Buzbee addressed all of the allegations.
“I’ve gotten multiple inquiries from friends and colleagues expressing concern and asking why I have been “barred” from practicing law in New York State and offering their assistance,” Buzbee said.
“I myself have seen several press agencies, some borderline legitimate, reporting that same trash. Let me be clear. I’m licensed to practice law in New York. I’m in good standing.”
