This week, what started as a light post from SZA turned into a full-on social media standoff between her and Nicki Minaj.
It all kicked off July 15 when SZA tweeted, “Mercury retrograde .. don’t take the bait lol silly goose.” On a regular day, that’s harmless horoscope talk. But the Queens MC wasn’t feeling it. She reposted with heat:
“Go draw your freckles back on bookie. #JusticeForDemoree #DepositionPerez Liar liar pants on fire. Sounding like a dead dog.”
From there, things spiraled. Minaj came for SZA’s looks, questioned her numbers, and even threw shade at SZA’s record-setting SOS album. The back-and-forth didn’t just live on X, either—Nicki brought her energy over to Stationhead, continuing the rant on livestream.
The TDE artist didn’t fold. Addressing the chatter and the Barbz swarming her mentions, she clapped back with perspective:
“I get bullied by millions online every day then step my ass out onna packed stadium tour where ppl show me REAL love. IN REAL LIFE. My parents are healthy and I’m the most successful I ever been. GET SOME F–KING PERSPECTIVE n BARK AT THE WALL!!!”
She wrapped it up, signature cool intact:
“Lmao lemme go back to being calm, shy and meek. Y’all have a blessed night! See you tomorrow for night 2 Paris!!”
Nicki Minaj claims the real issue started with TDE’s own Punch, accusing him of bullying her online after she allegedly turned down business offers.
“So glad I have proof of being bullied by AND being lied on by a man PUBLICLY,” Nicki posted, “after I rejected his business proposition on more than one occasion.”
Minaj reposted a video of a performance from her 2024 Gag City Tour with the comment “The bull I ride is not mechanical.”
This appeared to be directed toward Beyoncé, who often rode a mechanical bull as part of her 2024 Renaissance tour set.
Minaj did a stream on Stationhead earlier this month. And after playing two of her collaborations with Beyoncé during that stream, she had some interesting comments. Noting that just because she plays an artist’s music, that doesn’t necessarily mean she is on good terms with them.
“Any time I’m playing some music, it doesn’t mean that I rock with the person or whatever. Like, I want y’all to know this. I hate to have to say this,” she said during the stream.
