The famed rap group, the Migos split following the tragic death of their co-star Takeoff nearly three years ago. The rap star was shot and killed in November 2022 during an altercation in a Houston bowling alley.
Jermaine Dupri Dishes on Quavo & Offset’s Solo Careers
The Migos were part of a culture shift in the Atlanta music scene. Hits such as Bad & Boujee, Add it Up, and Handsome & Wealthy, catapulted them to superstardom. Even though Quavo and Offset have carved out their own lanes as solo artists, legendary Atlanta music producer Jermaine Dupri feels like they are better as a duo
“That hurt a lot of the city, period,” he said of Takeoff’s death. “The Migos breaking up was a bad situation for Atlanta because they were moving — and I think they’re better together anyway, me personally.”
Dupri also detailed his shock in the aftermath of Takeoff’s death “It was really crazy for us. I ain’t think Atlanta n****s was gonna die,” he said. “An Atlanta rapper dying felt like ‘Aw damn, what the f**k is going on?’ It felt crazy to me.”
All of the group members were close but Takeoff and Quavo had a special bond as nephew and Uncle. Following his nephew’s death, Quavo said that sometimes he still “cries himself to sleep.
“I miss him a lot and I love him,” Quavo said. “He knows I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around”
To this point, Quavo and Offset have not discussed a Migos reunion.
