Kid Cudi didn’t want to be anywhere near Sean “Diddy” Combs’s trial — but admittedly had no choice.
On Call Her Daddy this week (Aug. 13), the rapper opened up about the surreal and chaotic experience of taking the stand in May, calling it “intense” and something he “hated every minute” of.
“At first they asked, I said no. They asked again, I said no. Then I got subpoenaed and I was like, ‘F—. S––. No,’” Cudi recalled.
Cudi was called to testify because of his past relationship with Diddy’s ex, Cassie Ventura, and told the court he witnessed Diddy being “abusive” toward her. He said his only motivation to speak was to protect Cassie — a friend he’s always wanted to see “thrive” after what he called a “nightmare” relationship.
“When I saw her get married, I was happy she found her person. When I saw she was having kids, I was like, ‘This is awesome,’” Cudi said. “I’ve always just wanted to see her do well and be happy.”
During testimony, Cudi also alleged that Diddy broke into his home while he was dating Cassie, and that his car was set on fire shortly after their 2011 breakup.
“It was crazy, man. In the moment it was just crazy. I had a hard time understanding if it was reality. I was like, ‘Am I in a movie? What the f*** is going on?’”
For years, he brushed it off as just “wild s***” from his rockstar life — until the allegations against Diddy came back into the spotlight.
Diddy, 55, was arrested in late 2024 and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including sex trafficking. He was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted on three other charges. He continues to maintain his innocence.
