Rap star 50 Cent has expressed his concerns about New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. He has been especially critical of Mamdani’s plans to raise taxes for the rich. And ahead of the election on Tuesday, he had even more to say.

50 Cent, Zohran Mamdani Trade Words Ahead of Election Day

The Get Rich or Die Tryin’ took to Instagram on Monday (November 3). To offer a sort of olive branch to the mayoral hopeful. While he doesn’t believe that Mamdani’s intentions are malicious, he does think that his tax plan will hurt the city.

“I think his intentions are good. But his Tax plan is gonna run the big money out of the city. And if he defunds the police, they are gonna purge,” the rapper wrote on social media.

However, fans in the comments section of the post call out the rap star for siding with the one percent.

“50 is not for the working people, he is for the ultra-rich,” one person wrote.

“Why is it some rappers come up repping their city until they get big, and they completely forget who they are and the community that helped build them? It’s pretty f****n disappointing,” another user asked.

“50 cent too rich to understand the lower and middle class issues… so it’s understandable why he doesn’t like his tax policy,” another user said.

Mayoral Candidate Explains Plan For NYC

Mamdani is aware that his fellow Queens native has been critical of his tax plan. But during a recent appearance on MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber, Mamdani noted that his plan would “transform” the life of every New Yorker.

I continue to think that having the top one percent in New York City who are making more than one million dollars a year, having them pay two percent more for an economic agenda that would transform every New Yorker’s life, including their own, is worthwhile,” he said.

“The reason I say including their own is when you see a city like ours that is underfunding its city agencies, that is pulling back on the most basic things like library services and trash cans, everybody feels the effects of that.”
