Drake is preparing to release his ninth studio album, Iceman. The project is allegedly slated to drop before the end of the year.
Drake Teases Iceman Finale in New Interview
With Drake preparing for yet another rollout, he had to take a more complex approach with Iceman. So he used one of the fastest-growing platforms in music, livestreams. His series of Iceman episodes that have premiered on his YouTube channel have allowed him to debut singles such as What Did I Miss? and Which One?
After receiving raving reviews about the series, Drake told Complex that the finale of the series will be his “best work yet.”
He also spoke about how the idea of using livestreams to premiere his new music came about. It stemmed from him wanting to “challenge” himself on this next album.
“I have been dying to act and have been dying for a challenge,” he told the outlet. “The game is extremely calm seas right now. Nobody is rocking any boat on the water, and so once we discussed a live stream rollout, it just sounded like the perfect mix of risk and reward for me.”
The Grammy-winner was also forced to think deeper about the rollout process. When speaking with the outlet, he spoke about the love-hate relationship he has with creating the buildup for each album.
“I was asked by a creative partner what I love and hate about rolling out an album,” he added. “I expressed that I love the opportunity for a clean slate of thoughts and excitement and messaging when it comes to the music. What I hate is the redundancy of this formulaic approach that’s ingrained in our brains from early label days. Single, video, single, video, album cover post, etc.”
So far, there is no release date for Drake’s upcoming album. But it appears that the project will be one for the books.
