J. Cole is back in album mode. Earlier this month, the rap star revealed that his next studio album, The Fall Off, will drop on February 6.
It’s shaping up to be a big 2026 for J. Cole fans. This year, he has already dropped a mixtape. And his new album will be a double-feature. Featuring two discs. Similar to Drake’s 2018 album, Scorpion.
Cole Reveals Inspiration Behind ‘The Fall Off’ Double Disc
Cole has been very transparent about the rollout for this next project. When talking about the upcoming album, the rap star seems to insinuate that it was inspired by the 2024 feud involving himself, Drake, and Kendrick Lamar.
“However, two years ago, after the events that still feed the algorithm till this day, I became incredibly re-inspired. And the album slowly blossomed into a double disc as the concept expanded,” Cole wrote in a social media post after revealing that album’s cover art on Thursday (January 29).
That rap feud kicked off a rap civil war in 2024, and its effects are still being felt today. However, even though Cole threw the first shot at K.Dot, he quickly conceded.
On his new project, Birthday Blizzard 2026, which dropped on Tuesday (January 27), Cole addresses his disdain with rap beef. And the artists who use controversy to sell their music.
“Rays from the flows, radiate the globe, meltin’ snow on this tundra known as the rap game. That’s been overcome with loads of marketing plans. Based on randomly dissin’ and hatin’ on the next man,” he raps on the track.
Cole also adds: “Drama enhances the attention brought to the fans / On popular channels, so you wanna hop on the band / Wagon of battle rappin’, and throwin’ shots in a jam / I had my chance, but I dropped it, which means my only option’s / To do the opposite then (Lead with the skill, n***a).”
