R&B singer Sparkle has released a public statement following her niece Reshona Landfair’s emotional interview on CBS Mornings, where Landfair broke her silence about the infamous sex tape involving R. Kelly that surfaced in the early 2000s.
In the interview, Landfair detailed her experiences as a 14-year-old and spoke about her relationship with Kelly, claiming her aunt encouraged her to sit on his lap, rub his head, and ask him to be her godfather. According to Landfair, the situation later took a dark and traumatic turn.
In response, Sparkle said she is “relieved that Reshona is finally free to speak her truth and begin her healing journey,” adding that beyond justice, she has always wanted “healing and peace” for her niece. Sparkle firmly denied allegations that she groomed, facilitated, or enabled harm, calling those claims “untrue and deeply painful,” especially given what she describes as her documented actions at the time.
The statements have reignited public discussion surrounding the long-standing case, while centering attention on Landfair’s voice, healing, and ongoing journey toward closure.
