Akon has gone viral for the comments that he made about Drake and Bad Bunny.
During a February 25 appearance on the Kid L Podcast, Akon heaped praise on Bad Bunny and his 30-date “No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí” residency in Puerto Rico.
“That man sold 30 dates in Puerto Rico in one location,” Akon said (Via NoJumper/X). “Sold out 30 shows at the arena in one city.”
He also said that Bad Bunny having the capacity to do those types of numbers in one city mirrors the impact of pop legend Michael Jackson.
“That’s the kind of run Michael Jackson was doing,” Akon said. “Fifty dates in one location.”
Akon’s Drake, Bad Bunny Comparison Goes Viral
After heaping praise on Bad Bunny, the topic of Drake came up. And even though Drake has made millions in revenue in global shows, Akon isn’t convinced he can accomplish what Bad Bunny has.
“I mean, I love Drake,” Akon said. “But do you think he can sell that many arenas in America or even in Canada? I can see maybe 10 or 15.”
However, even though Akon doesn’t believe that Drake can sell out a residency in the capacity that Bad Bunny can, he still believes that he is the benchmark when it comes to commercial success.
“I compare everybody to Drake, including myself,” he explained. “Like, he’s the top-tier artist right now, in numbers.”
Akon says Drake can't sell out 30 dates in one city in America or Canada as Bad Bunny did in Puerto Rico.

Fans in the comments section of the social media post didn’t seem to agree.
“Drake could sell out a stadium every day for the rest of his life in Toronto and twice over,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Drake could fill Scotiabank arena in Toronto 30 nights in a row, let’s not be ridiculous,” a second user added.
“Give Drake a residency in Vegas, and he does it lol I love Akon but he wrong,” a third user chimed in.
At the time of writing, Drake has not responded to the comments made by Akon.
