LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers came up short against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday Night (May 11). Which means the Lakers are officially out of the playoffs after the Thunder completed the sweep.
LeBron’s 23rd season is officially over. And at 41 years of age, the retirement whispers are starting to get louder at the end of every season. With James set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, the four-time NBA champion was asked if he knew if he would be returning to the Lakers. Or if he would be returning at all.
LeBron Says He’s Uncertain About NBA Future
When answering the question, James expressed uncertainty about what the future holds for him.
“I think you guys asked me about [retirement], and I’ve answered questions. I don’t think I’ve come out and been like, ‘Oh, retirement is coming,'” James said, caught by ESPN. “With my future, I don’t know, honestly. It’s obviously still fresh from losing [the series]. And I don’t know. I don’t know what the future holds for me. I’ll go back and recalibrate with my family, talk with them, spend some time with them, and when the time comes, you’ll know what I decide to do.”

The series between the Lakers and Thunder was lopsided through the first three games. Losing each game by at least 15 points. But they looked like a worthy opponent in Game 3. As they led the contest late in the fourth quarter. But a fourth-quarter surge by the defending champs prevented them from getting into the win column in this series.
But despite a disappointing ending, LeBron says he can live with the fact that he gave it everything he had.
“I left everything I could on the floor,” said James, who finished the game with 24 points. “I can leave the floor saying, ‘S—, even though I hate losing obviously, I was locked in on what we needed to do. .Tried to make sure our guys were locked in on what we needed to do throughout the postseason, throughout 10 games.”
