Ice Cube’s Friday franchise has become a staple in the hip-hop community. And the creator of the film, Ice Cube, is set to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film in a major way.
Ice Cube, Mike Epps Set to Host ‘Friday’ Anniversary Concert
According to a Wednesday (May 13)report from AllHipHop, Cube is gearing up to celebrate the film’s green anniversary. With a special concert in Long Beach on July 17. The concert, titled “Everyday’s Friday: Lyrics, Loungin’ and Laughing,” will be hosted by comedian Mike Epps. Who starred in Friday and Friday After Next.
So far, West Coast rap legends Warren G and Scarface are set to be special guests at the concert. But no word on whether they will perform at the event. Following the announcement, Ice Cube said that this concert will be an homage to the fans. That keeps the film’s name alive for more than three decades.
“Friday has always been about and for the fans who made it a classic. And kept it alive for nearly 30 years,” Ice Cube said in a statement to the outlet. “To be able to step back out there with Mike Epps and bring that energy to the stage for a one-night-only experience in Long Beach is special. This show represents the beginning of the next chapter.”
Epps also echoed that same sentiment.
“Every day for the last 30 years, someone has told me how much they loved the Friday franchise and how much the characters mean to them. To reunite with Cube and bring this one-night-only experience to the fans is incredible,” the comedian said.
The concert is also significant because it will happen on the same day that the final installment of the series, Last Friday, hits theaters.
