Boxing stars Claressa Shields and Alycia Baumgardner got into a heated altercation backstage at Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions first MMA Event on Saturday (May 16). Things came to a head when Shields appeared to slap Baumgardner after they came face-to-face.
Claressa Shields Responds to MVP’s Ban From Future Events
In the aftermath of the altercation, MVP released a statement and noted that Shield’s actions “reflect poorly on MVP and women’s sports.” As a result, they have banned the boxing champion from future events until further notice.
In response to the ban, Shields took to social media and insisted that the ban from MVP is just them sucking on sour grapes. The promotion company once tried to sign her to their brand, and she declined.
“Now, to MVP, y’all tried to sign me, I declined! You can not ban me from a place I didn’t want to be!” Shields wrote in a social media post on Tuesday (May 19). “I can go fight anywhere in the world Tomorrow! So, anyone who thinks this weak-ass ban matters, it doesn’t!”
In their statement, MVP also called out Shields for her choice to “physically attack a fellow athlete while there as a guest.” But Shields says that is a “false statement.” And noted that Alycia was the instigator because she threatened her first. And says that it isn’t the first time the MVP has tried to demean her character.
“Those false statements will be addressed, too. Y’all’s fighter threatening me and then playing victim is insane. MVP y’all lying on me is NOTHING NEW!” she added. “Since you guys came out of the gate, nothing but disrespect! Calling y’all fighters “the Real GWOAT”, overlooking my accomplishments, trying to erase my hard work in women’s boxing & constantly trying to assassinate my character with LIES!
At the time of writing MVP has not responded to Shield’s statement.
