Legendary rapper Kurupt opened up about his addiction struggles on Sway In The Morning. He revealed that a fan helped him through the dark period in his life.
What Did Kurupt Say?
Kurupt told Sway that his drinking got out of control, leading to some scary events. He suffered multiple seizures before being placed in a medically-induced coma for over three weeks. The West Coast legend disclosed that back-to-back seizures forced him to confront his alcoholism. But to fight your demons requires help, and he got some from one of his biggest fans.
“It was Dr. Dre that called and was just giving his support and just let me know that, you know, we all go through these things. He was just giving me that game. And it was Em who came to the table like, ‘I’m gonna put Kurupt with my folks, and I’m going to put some money into getting him into like, a rehab situation to where he can sit down and enjoy [himself] and be out the way. Nobody will know he’s there.’ You know, these things cost bread, so Em put the cheese up for it and said, ‘Tell Kurupt I love him.’ So, you know, that was real special to me. I appreciate both of them so much. And it’s like, damn, you know? He just came out the blue from nowhere. Like, ‘Okay, Kurupt going through that? Bam. Boom. I’ma do that for him, man. Tell Kurupt get well, we love him.’ That’s deep.”
Eminem has been a Kurupt fan for years, shouting him out as one of the best rappers of all time on the workout anthem “Til I Collapse.”

Eminem’s Addiction Struggles
The struggles of Kurupt hit close to home for Em, who had well-documented issues with substance abuse.
He overdosed on methadone in 2007, almost dying. Since then, he’s dedicated his life to sobriety, now going on 18 years.
He opened up about it in his documentary STANS.
“After the overdose, I came home going, ‘Yo, bro, I need something… I’m going to die if I don’t do something,’” Eminem said. “The response I got from Relapse was lukewarm, but that also turned the lights on and I thought, ‘You’ve gotta do something different, why don’t you try embracing sobriety? I realized I’m not embarrassed anymore about it, and I started treating sobriety like a superpower. I was proud of the fact that I could quit.”
