The music business is a fickle game, as T-Pain knows all too well. Now, he’s suing Akon’s label Konvict music due to a royalties dispute.

Fans may remember T-Pain and Akon were a dynamic duo at one point, dropping several classics such as “Ur Not The Same,” “You Got Me,” and of course “Bartender.”

But allegedly, Konvict music failed to disclose just how much money T-Pain was making off those songs. He claims Konvict still owes him $489,047 in royalties for his music. T-Pain claims Konvict breached their recording agreement he signed with the company in 2005. He also says they breached the settlement that ended their previous lawsuit about the same issue, which was in 2025. Akon is not named as a defendant.

Konvict allegedly received $1.3 Million from a distributor in late March for T-Pain record sales generated during the second half of 2025. T-Pain says he is entitled to 75 percent of the net royalties Konvict receives from distributors per their agreement.

T-Pain & Konvict Music: A History

Konvict helped launch the singer’s career back in 2005, but tensions rose as money wasn’t coming in at the amounts he expected. Eventually, he took the dispute to court in 2018, suing the company over money he said he had not received in connection with his fifth studio album, Oblivion.

The lawsuit sought at least $400,000 over an allegedly unpaid advance and also requested royalty accountings and payments under his recording agreement. Konvict denied liability but ultimately agreed to pay him $114,000 under a 2025 settlement.
