Google Doodle Gives Nod to 44th Birthday of Hip Hop

Looks like the good folks over at Google decided to represent for us all, one time, as today’s Google Doodle is an ode to Hip-Hop history and the trailblazing DJs that helped bring the culture to be, complete with digital turntables and classic breaks!

The animated short is narrated by icon Fab 5 Freddy as he tells the story of the fabled party at 1520 Segwick Avenue that DJ Kool Herc threw for his sister’s school supplies back in 1973. That rec room jam would contain elements and energy that would become known as one of the biggest movements of sound and revolution around the world, i.e. Hip Hop Culture.

The Google Doodle has two turntables and a crate full of noteworthy breaks from Betty Wright & The Isley Brothers, newer music from producer extraordinaire Prince Paul and even samples and 808s direct from Google’s collections. Objectives include learning how to scratch and pause records, match key and tempo and playing specific jams together.

Hope you got your work done today, because this might take all day. Enjoy!
