The family of Tupac Shakur is taking another shot at justice nearly 30 years after his untimely demise.
The late rapper’s stepbrother, Mopreme Shakur, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles against as many as 100 unnamed defendants tied to what the family now says was a much bigger conspiracy behind the rapper’s 1996 murder.
According to court filings, the family believes that for the first time in decades, key pieces of the puzzle are finally lining up. The lawsuit argues that hidden evidence, reluctant witnesses, and years of silence kept the truth buried — until now.
Tupac was shot on Sept. 7, 1996, while riding in a BMW near the Las Vegas Strip. A white Cadillac pulled up beside him, and shots were fired. He was hit four times and died six days later.
For years, theories swirled around gang retaliation, label politics, and industry rivalries. But the lawsuit claims the truth is even deeper than the long-accepted street beef narrative.
New Evidence Suggests Conspiracy Behind Killing of Tupac
Keefe D — the only person ever charged in the case — was arrested in 2023 after prosecutors used statements from his memoir, Compton Street Legend, as part of their case. He pleaded not guilty and is expected to stand trial in August.
The new civil suit claims grand jury transcripts from Keefe D’s trial contain evidence pertaining to the involvement of people beyond those present in the white Cadillac,
The suit also points to claims made in Netflix’s Sean Combs: The Reckoning documentary as fresh sources of evidence includes allegations from high-level executives within Combs’ record label that he was involved in the killing, the complaint states.
Combs has repeatedly denied involvement in the rapper’s shooting.
The family is seeking unspecified damages and punitive penalties, saying Tupac’s loved ones have endured decades of emotional and financial loss — and they’re determined to finally hold everyone accountable.
