New York City DJ Funkmaster Flex did not hold back when addressing Jay-Z during his radio show on Hot 97 on Monday Night (July 6).
In a rant that has since gone viral, Flex accuses Jay-Z of trying to control the narrative surrounding him. By using media personalities as mouthpieces.
Funk Flex Blasts Jay-Z Over Handling of Kaepernick Saga
Flex uses the specific example of the comments that Jay-Z made about former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. After securing a partnership with the NFL. And called it a “real slice below the belt,” that “wasn’t for your people.”
He also insists that when other media personalities initially called Jay out over his comments about Kaepernick, he made “personal calls” to control how it was “spun.”
“That’s why this all gets weird. If you’re saying something about him, he gets upset, his team gets upset… You and your team made personal calls to air personalities. To make sure how they spun it,” he said in a clip caught by HotNewHipHop.
However, it doesn’t appear to be all bad blood between Hov and Flex. He even said that he loves “nine out of ten things” about him.
Funk Flex reveals that Jay-Z's team reached out to him following his criticism of Jay's take on Colin Kaepernick, alleging that this has happened to other on-air personalities as well:

Jay-Z was one of the first people to stand behind Kaepernick when the former San Francisco 49ers began protesting racial injustice in America during NFL games. By refusing to stand for the National Anthem. So naturally, the rap star became the subject of backlash. When his label Roc Nation joined forces with the NFL to become their Live Music Entertainment Strategist. As part of his position, Hov now leads the NFL’s social activism campaign “Inspire Change,” and selects the talent for each year’s halftime show.
When he spoke about the move, Jay-Z said that it was time to move “past kneeling” and onto the next phase of Kaepernick’s protest.
