Earlier this month, Netflix debuted the official roast of comedian Kevin Hart. And he has come under heavy backlash after one of the jokes made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.
During Hinchcliffe’s set, he made a joke about police brutality victim George Floyd.
“The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all, laughing so hard he can’t breathe,” he said.
The joke obviously led to a lot of backlash from the black community. Hart appeared on The Breakfast Club on Tuesday (May 26). He addressed all of the backlash that he has received from the black community.
Hart Responds to Backlash Over George Floyd Joke
Hart admitted that Hinchcliffe’s joke wasn’t a “tasteful” joke as far as the black culture is concerned. But added that the black audience that watched his roast should “understand” why those types of jokes were being told. And why “racial humor” is on the table during the roast. He also says that he “wasn’t shocked” that the joke was told, and used the Tom Brady Roast to support his claim.
“It happens every year that they do a roast. It’s what they do, it’s not a new agenda,” he said.
Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne the God then asked the comedian if he felt like Tony Hinchcliffe’s joke went “too far,” by making the George Floyd joke. Kevin Hart responded that, given Hinchcliffe’s history, he “doesn’t expect less,” nor does he “expect more.” He also said that Hinchcliffe had “one of the best sets” during the roast.

However, people in the comments section of the post did not appear to be buying what Kevin was selling.
“Nah, he’s just talking bullshit now because nobody is backing him; even older, more highly credited comics aren’t siding with him,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Naaa, Kevin Hart was trying to appease them, people. George Floyd and a joke shouldn’t be in the same sentence,” a second person chimed in.
A May 11 report from TMZ said that Floyd’s family is “appalled” by the joke. And a rep for their Gianna and George Floyd Foundation, told the outlet that Hinchcliffe’s joke was “sad for the culture.” And also put Kevin Hart on the hot seat for condoning the joke. Adding that they were “disgusted” and “baffled.”
