Netflix has doubled down on its support for comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. And people are not happy about it in the slightest.
Netflix Under Fire For Doubling Down on Hinchcliffe Support
To bring things up to speed, Hinchcliffe came under fire after he made a distasteful joke. About the police brutality victim, George Floyd, during the Kevin Hart Roast back in May.
“The Black community is so proud of you… right now George Floyd is looking up at us all, laughing so hard he can’t breathe,” he said.
Netflix is backing Hinchcliffe. By giving him a solo comedy special titled “Tony Hinchcliffe: Man Of The People,” according to a recent report from AllHipHop.
The streaming platform caught a lot of heat for its decision.
“Netflix is platforming the worst people,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“I have never liked him; he essentially plays the same character in all movies and all commercials,” a second user chimed in.
Kevin Hart also backed Hinchcliffe during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club and praised him for having “one of the best sets” during the roast. And admitted that while the George Floyd joke wasn’t “tasteful” to black culture, it was par for the course as far as roasts are concerned.
“Yeah, the George Floyd joke, it wasn’t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but our audience that’s watching the roast, if you’re watching the roast, you get why they’re doing it,” he said. “You get why the racial humor is on the table. I wasn’t shocked. That’s what they do. Go look at [The Roast of] Tom Brady, like, that’s what they do. It happens every year when they do a roast.”
