The New York Knicks are just one win away from securing their first NBA title since 1973. And RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan believes that the rap group’s halftime performance in Game 4 was a big reason why.
RZA Says Wu-Tang’s Performance Sparked Knicks Comeback
The Knicks looked dead in the water in the first half. The Spurs seemingly could not miss a shot, and subsequently, the Knicks couldn’t seem to buy a basket. And they trailed by as many as 29 points in the first half.
But New York was able to storm back in the second half as they completed the largest comeback victory in NBA Finals history. When speaking with TMZ on Friday (June 12), RZA said that he believes that Wu-Tang Clan’s halftime performance provided the “spark” that was needed for the team to complete the comeback.
“I do think that the Wu energy sparked the wick to that explosion,” he said when speaking to the outlet. “It was pretty dismal in there. We knew we had the halftime performance. And we were trying not to let the being down almost 30 points affect our energy and what we represent.”

The Wu definitely brought the energy at The Garden on Wednesday night. And their performance was one for the ages. RZA also says that he called an audible and changed some of the lyrics to incorporate Knicks references into their performance. To “get that energy in the building.”
He also adds that despite the huge deficit the team was facing at the time, the moment still felt “really special.”
The series now shifts to San Antonio for Game 5, where the Knicks are undefeated so far in the Finals. If they can secure another victory on Saturday night, they will be NBA Champions for the first time in more than 50 years.
