The 20-track project, which is set to arrive on May 16, marks X-to-the-Z’s first since 2012’s Napalm.
Kingmaker’s extensive supporting cast boasts fellow Hip Hop heavyweights Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Royce Da 5’9″.
He also taps into the next generation, recruiting Ty Dolla $ign, Symba, JasonMartin (formerly Problem), Domo Genesis, and Guapdad 4000, among others.
The West Coast rapper-turned-actor will release his eighth studio album via UFC champion Conor McGregor’s new label Greenback Records. The imprint has also partnered with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, further cementing its entrance into the Hip Hop landscape.
Xzibit previously spoke about the project and its lead single, “Play This At My Funeral,” with NME, saying: “It is a morbid title but I think ‘Play This At My Funeral’ has nothing to do with me dying. This is a snapshot of where I am mentally, physically, emotionally.
Reflecting on his return, Xzibit emphasized his enduring passion for music.
“[This] is what I do the best, naturally. I do a lot of other things — a lot of different films, a lot of different TV stuff — but music is the catalyst to what makes everything work. So, I felt the music had come to a point where it needed to come out.
“I’ve been working on music off-and-on for the last 10 to 12 years but I didn’t feel like it was what I needed to put out. I didn’t feel like it was different enough. [I was] able to hear something in myself that I hadn’t heard before, so it made it easy to know [it was time to release the music].”
