While there are several formidable gaming consoles on the market, there were really only two goliaths in the gaming industry. Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox. But the latest news may have just ended a console war.

Halo Set to Be Available on PlayStation in 2026

For so long, the debate was that PlayStation had the better console, while Xbox had the better games. More specifically, their flagship shooter game, Halo, was exclusively available for the Xbox platform. However, that is all about to change. In an October 24 announcement, Microsoft revealed that Halo would be available on PlayStation and would allow for cross-console interactive play. A move that will surely shake up the gaming industry moving forward.

Halo Studios community director Brian Jarrard confirmed the news on an October 24 livestream (Via PC Gamer).

“It’s really a new era—Halo is on PlayStation going forward,” he said.

Following the announcement of Halo being available for PlayStation, the popular gaming store, GameStop, ordered a ceasefire. Declaring the console war officially over.

Fans, of course, had a lot to say about GameStop’s bold announcement on social media.

“Y’all offered me $20 for my [Nintendo] Switch…ain’t no ceasefire,” one fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“PlayStation won the war! We took Halo as the spoils of war. PlayStation Nation! GG,” another user added.

“In my opinion, these consoles are more complementary than competitors. Both offer unique experiences,” a third user said.

As for what is next for Xbox following the latest news? Well, they are preparing to drop their next-gen console. And it sounds like it will be a pretty big deal, according to the company’s president, Sarah Bond.

“The next-gen console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience,” she said.

Halo will be available for PlayStation beginning in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates.
