This is already shaping up to be one of the more active NBA trade deadlines in recent memory. Several stars have already been moved, including James Harden, Darius Garland, and Jaren Jackson Jr. The most recent addition to that list is Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis.
Anthony Davis Traded to Wizards in Blockbuster Deal
The Mavericks’ big man was dealt to the Washington Wizards in an eight-player blockbuster deal on Wednesday (February 4), per ESPN.
In addition to Davis, the Wizards will also receive guards Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum. In exchange, Dallas will receive sharpshooter Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, and Marvin Bagley III. They will also receive draft compensation in the form of two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders.
This trade has to leave a sour taste in the mouths of every Mavericks fan. It was just last year that they traded their 25-year-old phenom, Luka Doncic, to acquire Davis from the Los Angeles Lakers. A move that former Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison justified based on the talent level of Davis. Now, just 12 months later, the All-Star big man is on his way to another home.
Fans on social media did not hold back on the Mavericks.
“The Mavericks traded Luka Doncic for Khris Middleton,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“This trade makes absolutely zero sense for Dallas. Trading Anthony Davis for that return is franchise malpractice,” another user added.
“Dallas basically traded Luka Doncic for a bag of chips,” a third user chimed in.
On the other hand, the Wizards’ roster is really starting to shape up. They already acquired All-Star guard Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks earlier in the season. And now they have landed another star in Anthony Davis. It will be interesting to see how they’ll fare once they take the floor together.
