Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are reportedly in talks to order a third installment of their blockbuster movie series, Ride Along.
Ice Cube & Kevin Hart’s Ride Along 3 in ‘Early Development’
According to an April 10 report from Deadline, the film is in the stages of “early development.” With director Tim Story and producer Will Packer also in “early discussions” to return.
The first installment follows two brothers-in-law, Ben (played by Kevin Hart) and a detective named James (played by Ice Cube). Ben wants to marry James’ sister Angela (played by Tika Sumpter), which is much to James’ displeasure. So Ben believes he can win him over by joining the police academy and eventually becoming a detective, just like his future brother-in-law. James takes Ben on a ride-along throughout the city to see if he has what it takes to become a cop. But instead, it leads them into an afternoon of debauchery, which leads them into a highly volatile arms deal.
The film, which dropped in January 2014, was a mega-hit. Cashing in $48.6 million over its first four days. And more than $150 million globally. The second installment did not perform as well as the first. But still ran up an impressive $41 million over its first four days and over $124 million globally.
When speaking on working with Kevin Hart, Ice Cube called him the ultimate “pro.”
“He’s always on point and ready. He’s cool because he’ll make the crew laugh but also make the camera laugh, too, and a lot of guys can’t do that,” he said (via Refinery29.com). “Some comedians I’ve had to pull to the side and say, ‘You’re making the crew crack up, but in between you ain’t got no energy. What the f*ck? Sit down.’ But, Kevin ain’t like that; he’s the Energizer Bunny. I don’t know if it’s coffee or cocaine or what. It’s his personality; it’s not an act. It’s a great thing to work with somebody who’s just a pro.”
