Rick Ross is gearing up for his Verzuz battle vs French Montana tonight but found time to speak to Complex about numerous topics. Along with teasing some songs he may play tonight, and promoting his new book, Ross dropped some key information about JAY-Z.

What Did Rick Ross Say About JAY-Z?

In his interview with Complex, Ross discussed collaborating with JAY-Z, saying it’s time for another JAY verse.

“Do I think Hov gonna release something and drop on n*****?” Ross said. “Of course, he got to. It’s too easy for him and the game need it. N***** need that Rick Ross, set in stone, album. N***** need a Hov, a gift from the gods.”

Ross also claimed he has Hov verses floating around.

“We done did collaborations in the way you end up with a JAY-Z verse, the way I have or two that was never released is because, what we have in common is certain musical palettes and tastes and beats. Hov is a creator. You play something dope, you in the right place at the right time he gon smoke that s*** right then.

Ross then asked a rhetorical question to himself, saying “Is it time for a Hov verse.”

“I don’t know, the streets have to wait and see,” Ross said. “Especially [Rick Ross], I would love to see it happen.”

It’s important to note Ross did not claim to know for sure if Hov is dropping, but there’s clearly some smoke there. JAY-Z is gearing up to headline Roots Picnic, and to play Yankee Stadium for three nights in July. He also recently sat down with the New York Times in a rare interview to discuss the best American songwriters.

What Else Is Going On With JAY-Z?

The New York rapper recently sat down with the New York Times to discuss songwriting and other aspects of his career.

JAY opened up about the album that gave him the most trouble mentally.

4:44 was the toughest thing I had to write,” he said. “Not lyrically, not the greatest metaphors I ever created, but the vulnerability, the honesty and transparency, that’s hard. That’s a difficult thing. But to do it for an entire album and sit in that and talk about real subjects and how your kids are gonna feel… That was the most difficult album that I had to write.”

His legendary engineer, Young Guru, has also been outspoken lately. He took to Instagram to demand his rightful flowers.

““No more humble ‘Guru,’” he wrote “I tried it your way. I’m about to remind you. I thought it was corny to brag but y’all don’t respect nothing else. You talking but can’t see my career!!! You have one record. Bro I was doing that every week!!! 25 years ago. And I’m still doing it now!!! I’m one of the best ever!!!!”

Guru’s accolades include one Grammy win for Beyonce and JAY-Z’s Everything Is Love, along with five other Grammy nominations. He also served as the tour DJ for West and Hov’s Watch The Throne Tour.
