Jay-Z’s three-night run at Yankee Stadium last weekend was full of surprises. But perhaps the biggest surprise was on the opening night, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt. He brought Nas on stage to perform with him on night one.
Dame Dash Not a Fan of Nas & Jay-Z’s Reunion
At one point, Nas and Jay-Z sharing a stage seemed impossible. The two of them had one of the most bitter feuds in rap history. So, of course, many of the fans praised the legendary moment. The former Roc-A-Fella Records executive, Damon Dash, wasn’t a fan of Nas and Jay-Z’s reunion.
During a recent interview with Art of Dialogue, Nas and Hov being on stage together was called “cringe”
“I’m used to them beefing,” Dame said as caught by Complex. “I never wanted to see Nas rap over a Jay beat. I never wanted to see Jay doing background for Nas. It just felt awkward.”
He also compared the two of them being on stage together to “Godzilla high-fiving King Kong.” However, he did add context. Noting that he is a fan of the competitiveness of rap beef.
“I just like the art of rap,” he explained. “I think it’s cool when people can battle, give each other pounds and keep battling, but all this kumbaya … I’m not all about all that.”
Overall, the moment between Nas and Jay-Z was pretty cool. The two of them traded verses across each other’s catalogs. Jay-Z rapped over his track “Dead Presidents II,” which famously samples Nas’ vocals, before Nas seamlessly transitioned into “The World Is Yours”.
