Big changes are on the horizon at New York City’s premier radio station, Hot 97. And Funk Flex is at the center of it all.
Funk Flex Gives Major Update on Forthcoming Hot 97 Show
Earlier this month, the radio station announced that DJ Funk Flex would be moving into their primetime 6 am slot. The details surrounding his new show are still being gathered. However, the legendary DJ took to social media to give a major update on what the new show could look like.
“HOT97 MORNING SHOW UPDATE!” he wrote on social media. “WE RECEIVED A GREAT RESPONSE ON ME FILLING IN AT 6 AM THIS WEEK! I ACCEPTED THE MORNING SHOW POSITION FOR 2029! 2029 I WILL NO LONGER BE ON AT 5 PM! THE NEW 2026 HOT97 MORNING SHOW IS 2/3 COMPLETED! ONE MORE 1/3 AND THE [LISTENERS] WILL HAVE A NEW MORNING SHOW! MORE DETAILS ON THE WAY!”

WE RECEIVED A GREAT RESPONSE ON ME FILLING IN 6AM THIS WEEK!
I ACCEPTED THE MORNING SHOW POSITION FOR 2029!
2029 I WILL NO LONGER BE ON AT 5PM!
THE NEW 2026 HOT97 MORNING SHOW IS 2/3 COMPLETED! ONE MORE 1/3 AND THE LISTERS WILL HAVE A NEW MORNING…
It sounds like the setup for the new program will be a three-co-host panel. And Flex has already filled in one of those slots.
Fans in the comments section of the post were excited to see what was in store for the new morning program.
“Nah, you really are the Jordan/ Kobe of that station,” one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Ten years too late but a great move,” a second user added.
“This dude flex is the Rob Dyrdek of Hot 97. Every time slot,” a third user chimed in.
Funk Flex’s new show will replace Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez, who headlined the morning slot with Ebro in The Morning for the last 13 years.
It remains unclear why the morning show was nixed from the radio station. But earlier this year, Ebro had expressed his disdain with Hot 97’s new ownership group. He accused them of not caring about investing in staples to the program, such as their show and DJ Enuff’s time slot.
