If you know anything about Jay Z and Twitter you’ll know that Jay Z is NEVER on Twitter. But Jay Z quickly went to Twitter to express his support of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s steps towards shutting down New York’s Rikers Island correctional facility. Rikers Island has been infamous in many different facets but of late it has been their alleged prisoner neglect and abuse.
Mayor Blasio presented the possibility that if crime in New York City continues to decrease that there is a possibility that the long standing prison could close it’s doors. Other than being a New Yorker Jay Z is close to this conversion for many reasons one big reason is the film that Jay helped create about Kalief Browder entitled “The Kalief Browder Story”. The abuse that the innocent young man Browder received during his time at Rikers Island is believed to have driven Browder to suicide.
Jay Z shared Mayor Blasio’s quote via Twitter thanking the public for their outcry and compassion for Browder’s story. Jay also refers to Browder as a prophet and shares how his story and life experiences can save the lives of others.
Kalief is a prophet. His story will save lives . You guys watching and your compassion made this happen. Thank you . pic.twitter.com/Vvnt9tDBeR
