Most of the Rory & Mal podcast has gained a reputation for making outlandish statements. But his latest comments about hip-hop icon Andre 3000 have fans especially outraged.
Mal Under Fire After Calling Andre 3000 ‘Overrated’
During a recent taping of their weekly podcast, the topic of overrated rappers came up. And Mal revealed that he believes that Andre 3000 is the most overrated rapper of all time. He explained that the main reason for his belief is the fact that Andre 3000 has never put out a solo project.
“The most overrated rapper to me? Andre 3000,” he began. “Only because he’s never put out a solo rap project, and he gets GOAT status. You have to have a solo rap album.”
Mal, of course, received pushback from his other co-hosts. However, he went on to elaborate. He noted that at one point, he “fell victim” to having the Atlanta native in his top rappers of all time. However, after careful thought, he deemed it to be unfair to the other rappers who have impressive solo catalogs. Given that Andre 3000’s career is largely based on what he did with Big Boi when he was a part of Outkast.
“I fell victim at one point to having 3000 in my top five rappers of all time,” he explained. “And I had to really think about it. I’m like, that’s not fair to somebody whose entire career is a solo career, and they’ve put out amazing albums, amazing bars, and they don’t get that slot. Whereas 3000 gets it, but we never got a solo rap project from him?”

However, fans on social media appeared to disagree.
“Another L take. Too early in 26,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“There is already an abundance of great verses and features that put him in that goat convo,” another user added.
3K Dropped Solo Project in 2023
Although Andre 3000 has never dropped a solo rap album, he has tested the waters of a solo career in another genre.
His debut solo album is New Blue Sun, released in November 2023. However, it was a complete 180 from his hip-hop roots. New Blue Sun is an instrumental, flute-focused, experimental jazz/new age record with no rapping or beats.
