There seems to be an uptick in beef around the rap industry as of late. Cardi B and BIA, Joey Badass and Ray Vaughn, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake have all occurred in the past couple of years alone. During an era where rap beef appears to be prominent, one person that you will not see engaging is 21 Savage.
21 Savage Explains His Refusal to Engage in Rap Beef
During a chat with Traditional Talk earlier this year, the Red Rum creator was asked to give his take on the volatile beef between rap stars Drake and Kendrick Lamar. During the interview, 21 Savage said that rap beef is something that he doesn’t believe in.
“I don’t really believe in rap beef,”he said of rap beef. “I don’t come from that world, though. But I feel like it depends on what world you come from. […] If you say certain sh*t about me in a song, I’mma slap the f*ck out of you when I see you. You’re gonna have to stand on that sh*t when you see me. I don’t really believe in certain sh*t.
21 Savage is not the only artist who has taken this stance when it comes to rap beef. Famed producer Metro Boomin recently appeared on the Posted on The Corner podcast and echoed a similar sentiment.
“Everybody understands and respects the fact that I’m like Switzerland and don’t expect me to take a side or do this or do that… I find peace in keeping the peace,” Metro Boomin said. “I wish everybody the best, I pray for people I don’t know, I don’t want any problems with anybody, I just want to make music, which is what I love. I’d do it for free, and love my family, and just keep growing.”
It appears that hip-hop is heading in a different direction.
