A$AP Rocky is opening up about one of the most difficult chapters of his life—spending nearly a month locked up in a Swedish jail in 2019.
On Tuesday (Jan. 20), Ebro Darden shared a clip from his upcoming full interview with A$AP Rocky, where the Harlem rapper vividly described the conditions he endured after being arrested overseas. Rocky recalled being held in a small cell with no bathroom, just a sink, mirror, bed, desk, and cot. To use the restroom, he had to ask for permission—sometimes being left in a dark bathroom for up to an hour after the lights shut off automatically.
Rocky also described the lack of basic necessities, explaining that after showers there were no towels provided, forcing inmates to create makeshift alternatives. While he acknowledged it wasn’t as harsh as some U.S. facilities, he made it clear the experience was far from comfortable.
As his case gained international attention, Rocky said the emotional weight of the situation intensified—especially once it reached global news and even drew comments from then-President Donald Trump. Though grateful for the attention, Rocky admitted he was mentally low at the time. What ultimately lifted his spirits, he said, was seeing fellow artists and peers publicly support him and agree that the situation wasn’t right.
Rocky was arrested in July 2019 along with two of his security guards following an altercation in Sweden while on tour. He spent about 30 days in jail before going to trial that August. Though later found guilty, Rocky avoided additional jail time, closing a chapter that remains one of the most talked-about legal ordeals in hip-hop history.
