Brooklyn drill rapper Briscoe Bands died in the hospital early Wednesday morning after being shot near the Coney Island boardwalk.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9:20 a.m. near West 28th Street and Surf Avenue, where they found 24-year-old Truron Roach-Martin, who performed under the name Briscoe Bands, suffering from gunshot wounds to his face and chest. He was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made, and police say the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
“His career was taking off,” said the rapper’s mother, Christine Roach, who speculated that jealousy over her son’s rising music career may have played a role. “He was a young Black man coming up in the music business.”
Authorities have not identified a suspect or announced any charges as the investigation continues.
