John Legend is addressing where he stands with former collaborator Kanye West, saying his reluctance to reunite creatively goes beyond anything Ye has said about him personally.

Speaking with Complex, Legend explained that he could forgive West’s personal remarks. His greater concern is the harm he believes West’s public statements have caused Black and Jewish communities. Legend said West’s public apology was insufficient to address that damage.
“I don’t think I’m interested in making art with him,” Legend said. However, he stopped short of ruling out a collaboration forever, adding, “Who knows, five, 10 years from now?”
Legend also said he would be open to a private conversation with West, emphasizing that neither has reached out to the other. Any discussion, he explained, would be personal rather than a public reunion.
While Legend appears willing to move past individual insults, he believes rebuilding a creative relationship would require West to do more to address the broader impact of his actions.
