The Notorious B.I.G. will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame May 2nd along with Whitney Houston at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium. Biggie was nominated for the first time this year. The other inductees this year are Depeche Mode, the Doobie Brothers, Nine Inch Nails and T. Rex.
Music journalistĀ Jon Landau, who went on to co-produce music with Bruce Springsteen, will also be recognized with the specialĀ Ahmet Ertegun Award, honoring people who have had a major influence on rock ‘n’ roll.
Notably absent from the list of inductees is Dave Matthews Band. The beloved jam band is a first-time nominee for the Rock HallĀ and won the organization’s annualĀ fan voteĀ with more than 1 million votes cast online since October. The top five artists in that vote made up a fans’ ballot, which is counted as a single vote alongside the 1,000-plus others ballots. Pat Benatar, the Doobie Brothers, Soundgarden and Judas Priest rounded out theĀ fan vote ballot. This is the first time in seven years the winner of the fan vote was not included in that year’s Rock Hall class.
Rock Hall inductees are chosen by an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. An artist is not eligible for induction until 25 years after the release of their first single, album or EP, meaning that the 2020 class had to have released their first eligible music in 1994 or earlier.
For the first time, the Rock Hall induction ceremony will be broadcast live on HBO May 2 (8 p.m. EST). Performances and special guests will be announced later.
Tickets to the event go on sale to the general public on Feb. 27 at 10 a.m. EST onĀ ticketmaster.com.
Congrats to all the inductees.
